Here it is the middle of summer. Spring is a memory and Autumn is still aways away. The scorching heat of the sun is bearing down each day, and there is a stillness which comes with the lazy days of summer. I noticed today how dry the grass is becoming. Even the rain we got yesterday is not enough to compete with the sun. Our days are full of hours upon hours of child's play for my little ones. They are enjoying the time with their cousins. Many hours exploring down at the creek, splashing in the little pools and escapading down the slip n' slide. Forts and tree houses have been built. Fair maidens walk about between the houses in their fancy attire, while dashing young men with their swords parade around the property. Dolls and barbies, knives, bows and arrows, there is lots of creative play going on. Late nights, lazy sleep-in mornings, "ice lollies" as the British say, peanut butter and jelly picnic lunches outside. Seeing how far you can walk on your hands, making "tea" for your dollies are just a sampling of summer in the eyes of a child.
But, in the midst of summer quiet that is all so busy, there is a longing. A longing for routine and order. A longing for responsibility. And an itching for the weight to be felt again upon the shoulders, and the satisfaction of accomplishment. I feel it calling me. And as I plan and create within my mind the education of the future, an excitement stirs inside. The remembrance of the butterflies of anticipation the night before the first day of class. It is soon time to put aside the unstructured days and enter into the weight bearing again...and it is good. But, for now we plan and prepare..and enjoy- the last few weeks of summer.
