Lord's Day Gleanings

Awhile back I mentioned I was going to be putting up Lord's Day Gleanings each week. These are little quotes that are in our church bulletins. I am hoping to start that back up again. So here is the quote from today...such good treasures to meditate on!

If you would be acquainted with God,
you must visit Him often...
knock at His door...
wait for Him...
through solemn meditation,
secret prayer,
fasting,
communion with the saints,
and the Lord's Supper.

Interesting

While I don't advocate women olympic athletes. This article is really interesting. This is the best quote:
"No medal compares to having a child," said the 30-year-old.

"I think children are the main thing women are designed to do."

Olympic Musings

We stayed up late last night to watch the women's figure skating finals. It's a good thing these things only occur every 4 years, because it is very contraindicated (hey, we just learned the latin root to that word!) for my new Dr's orders to be in bed earlier. I am doing so much better at turning in at normal people's times...until well, we won't go there. Seriously though, earlier bed is really radical for us...and has been doing us alot of good.

Back to the figure skating though. I think it interesting that they tease us with a skater here and there and then go back to the boring stuff till really late. THEN when it's bedtime, they have the uninterrupted skating. Pretty sneaky if you ask me. I have to say SOME of the skiing can be a little interesting. I thought it quite cute when the chinese man clapped his hands and did a little hop before his big ariel flips. It made me want him to win, just because of that.

Which brings up the point that it is very good that I am not an Olympic judge. You see, if I were the judge...
--that little hop and clap would have earned points in his total scores...
--the woman who lost her mother the day before the olympics would have gotten a gold medal (because it would mean so much!) I was so happy she did medal though...my heart goes out to her!
--the ladies who fell on the ice, would have been given a retry. I mean, think how you would feel.
--in fact, no one who came to the olympics would have left without a medal...at least a medal for "good effort".

Yes, I see it is good that I am not an olympic judge. Hmm, now let's see..how does this apply to my mothering?

On a serious note, it does break my heart to think of how these men and women's lives are consumed with training and all pointed to this event. Their families lives revolve around it too. Especially the mommies out there, I am sad for their children. There was a woman skier yesterday who when asked about her friend (another skier) that had just died responded..It just shows me that it's all about...skiing. What? I expected her to say, that it showed her that the skiing was really nothing and it was about her family, or relationship with the Lord.

Check out this article...food for thought.

Visit From Nona and Papa

We had a visit from Papa and Nona the other day. Papa's sister, Aunt Florence, passed away and Non and Pop had the tremendous task of dividing up the house. They brought trailer and unloaded a furniture items, plus big boxes of household items. These things are a huge blessing to us!
We all enjoyed seeing them and having the bonus of some time with them before they headed on their way. The children enjoyed games such as .Mother may I? with Nona and Go Fish with Papa. They hope to get home in a few days for some much needed rest. We love you both!

Valentines Day 2010

Valentines Day has been one of those times that over the last few years we have decided to make a bigger deal and have fun, family memories. Not so much because we have to (because Hallmark says) but it's a fun excuse to lavish special memories on each other. So this year we did so again last night. We started out our valentines dinner with having our "dessert first" -- something sweeter than honey. Our love letters from the Lord Jesus. I had filled a fancy heart chocolate box that Steven had given me a few years ago (it was so beautiful I had to keep it!) with scriptures on love in the Bible. Each person took a rolled up paper with the verse on it, and we went around the table and read it.

After that we had dinner and cupcakes. And we got to open our chocolates from Nona and Papa. Then the special homemade cards and little gifts began. The boys each got a pure silver quarter. As you can tell by the pictures...it was a very special time!

SNOW!

Well, it happened! These former Texans got a real true snow to enjoy! Last year when it snowed good we lost our power which meant no heat in the house. So we ended up having to evacuate and go to Moms, one of our vehicles got stranded on the side of the road..and well, we just did not get to enjoy the snow. A couple weeks ago it snowed and was great fun, but it was more ice than snow. THIS TIME it was white, fluffy, beautiful snow. We got about 3 inches and the children had so much fun! Again, blogger has posted the pictures backwards, but you will still enjoy the pictures.

Movie Recommendations

We recently watched this as a family and it was HILARIOUS! We thought it was so funny we went out and bought it for the children. S says you have to see it more than once to catch all the humor. It is just a silly children's movie but really cracked us up. We give it a thumbs up!

Last night we watched this one. I had seen it as a girl and remember loving it. This old musical is a classic. My children now are going around dancing, doing flips and gymnastics and barn style dances. My boys last night were carrying their sisters around pretending they were stealing their wives like the sobbin' women. Great fun!

Piano Lessons!

The girls have just begun piano lessons and are very excited. They love their teacher Mrs L. from our church! Thank you, dear friend for being a mentor to my girls in this practical way. As you can tell by the pics, the girls are so happy!
