"Christ is the most cheap physician, he takes no fee. He desires us to bring nothing to him but broken hearts; and when he has cured us he desires us to bestow nothing on him but our love."
Thomas Watson

Lord's Day Gleanings
[CHRIST] forgets not His promise, nor us. If the heavenly host, for the celebration of His nativity, must praise God, with what shoutings will angels and saints at that day proclaim glory to God, peace and good-will toward men! If a star must lead men from remote parts of the world to come and worship a child in a manger, how will the glory of His next appearing constrain all the world to acknowledge His sovereignty!

Lord's Day Gleanings
Because man is so welded to the world and dotes upon his lust, all the arguments that we can use are commonly unsuccessful. Therefore I shall add one more upon this sort of motives drawn from the qualifications of Him whom I would fain have you acquainted with...
Consider that He is altogether lovely; He's made of love, goodness and all excellencies...
Ask of them that by faith have seen Him.

Lord's Day Gleanings
We are justified and saved by the very righteousness of Christ,
and no other.
He wrought it,
though we wear it.

Lord's Day Gleanings

Awhile back I mentioned I was going to be putting up Lord's Day Gleanings each week. These are little quotes that are in our church bulletins. I am hoping to start that back up again. So here is the quote from today...such good treasures to meditate on!
If you would be acquainted with God,
you must visit Him often...
knock at His door...
wait for Him...
through solemn meditation,
secret prayer,
fasting,
communion with the saints,
and the Lord's Supper.

Lord's Day Gleanings

As I mentioned in a previous post, every Lord's Day in our bulletin our pastor puts a few short quotes or one longer quote for our edification. It is my purpose to post them here each week. I will title these posts "Lord's Day Gleanings". Here was this past week's quote...
"I am tempted to think that I am now an established Christian,--that I have overcome this or that lust so long,-- that I have got into the habit of the opposite grace, --so that there is no fear, I may venture very near the temptation--nearer than other men. This is a lie of Satan. One might as well speak of gunpowder getting by habit of resisting fire, so as not to catch spark. As long as powder is wet, it resists the spark; but when it becomes dry, it is ready to explode at the first touch. As long as the Spirit dwells in my heart, He deadens me to sin, so, if lawfully called through temptation, I may reckon upon God carrying me through. But when the Spirit leaves me, I am like dry gunpowder. Oh for a sense of this!"
